THE LIMAS 2017- LIMPOPO RISE AND SHINE
The first ever Limpopo Music Awards took place on the 11th November 2017 (this past Saturday) at Meropa Conference Centre in Polokwane. People came in numbers to support their families, friends, role models and their significant partners. The attendance was outstanding, the hall was fully packed that some of us had to stand on our feet throughout the programme.
The Red Carpet Experience started at 17:00, where fans had their fair chance to get snapshots with their favourite musicians. People looked stunning; they were dressed to kill in their evening wear, suits and evening red carpet dresses.
Tswayza had the honours to open the show by performing. Blazey Fresh followed after with his hit single Dlala, both performances were backed by Divine Dance Crew, obviously showing off their incredible dance moves.
Blazey Fresh was called on stage again, just when he was trying to get some air after a dope performance to receive the very first award of the evening. He won the Best Newcomer for his hit single “Dlala”.
The MEC of Sport Arts and Culture Mrs Onicca Moloi was given the task to present an extraordinary award to Dr Thomas Chauke for Lifetime Achievement Award to appreciate his consistency, loyalty and influence in the music industry.
Mopedy, Ck and Janisto, Calandray, Malatji, Benny Mayengani, Sido and Manana just to mention a few, gave excellent live performances on stage, in between the announcement of the awards.
During the awards the CEO, DJ Cappuccino (Fortune Maswanganyi) stated that he wishes for Limpopo artists to be recognised and acknowledged for their hard work and great talent bestowed upon them. The awards were to show them that their talent is appreciated by Limpopians. He further encourages artists to build their way up in their respective provinces that one doesn’t need to travel to the City of Gold for exposure and to become a successful artist.
Of course the show would not have taken place without the support of great sponsors namely: MMP security, Park-Inn, Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, Mercedes Benz and Mamonkwe Petroleum just to mention a few. Their support is indeed appreciated and did not go unnoticed.

I, personally having had the honour of attending the event, am proud to be from Limpopo. I was truly not aware of the immense talent that Limpopo produces. Ladies and gentlemen, let’s all stand united and support our fellow Limpopo artists. The awards were just the beginning of greater things to come for the artists and of course the new comers.
LIMAS were indeed a success and a great initiative to showcase Limpopo’s talent.
