AMBASSADORS TO ENHANCE USAGE OF DIGITAL SERVICES

The Gauteng Department of e-Government (e-Gov) has appointed Digital Ambassadors to promote the usage of electronic services amongst Gauteng government departments, business and citizens. This will enhance the usage of these e-Services.

e-Gov is tasked with modernising public services in Gauteng, this includes the development of various applications called e-Services that will allow government stakeholders to access services online.

MEC for Finance, Ms Barbara Creecy who is also the MEC for e-Gov said it was a well-known phenomenon that technology was not easily acceptable amongst people. Therefore the role of Digital Ambassadors was to promote technology and provide the required support to ease these fears.

“As a start, we have developed e-Services for our internal staff members. These include things like applying for leave or an allowance online through our Employee Self Service (ESS). However it has taken us a long time to get staff to utilise these functions. People are used to the old way of doing everything on paper. We need to teach and show them how. These ambassadors will do that,” said Creecy.

The department has appointed 40 ambassadors to work with internal GPG staff members, business and communities who will utilise e-Services in community centres such as Thusong Service Centres.
