BEHIND THE BEAT PRESENTS: A NIGHT WITH ROQUE

As you enter through the gates; the environment changes, the atmosphere becomes warm, the mood swings to the jolly side, and the music says stay. That’s what we experienced on the 6th of May 2017 at Mania Chisanyama formerly known as Experia, when Behind the Beat presented a Night with Roque.

Only 30 bucks got you in or 20 bucks and a like on their Facebook page (Behind the Beat SA). I mean really what’s there to lose? The sound was very well balanced and had everyone on their feet, moving to the sound of the beat and the lighting was bright enough as well, for those who like capturing moments and creating memories.

Sibusiso Neville Mtsweni, better known as Roque, is a 26-year-old self taught house music producer and DJ, born and bred in Witbank, Mpumalanga. He is the owner of DeepHouse Police Records. He has worked with HouseAfrika/Sony Music on his debut album “Lockdown” in 2015. He has worked with global house music artists such as George Levin, Stephanie Cooke, Jaidene Veda, Kenny Allen, Sabrina Chyld and Da Capo, just to name a few.

Roque did his thing on the decks, soulful house and a touch of deep. Alongside him was Dafro, Tyrog De Fuga, G Soul Blust, Afro Picaso Rhotic, Cemitone, El figo and Shuffle Beats who shuffled the crowd with his Hip Hop mixes.

I managed to have a chat with Matome, the PR of Behind the Beat and this was what he had to say:

Me: Did the event go according to your expectations?

Matome: It was the first time hosting such an event and given that we had a little time to market the event, it was quite scary but we did so much in a short space of time that the event turned out to be a success in a remarkable way though we could’ve done better than we did. Honestly I’m pleased with the turn out and hopefully the next event, with more time and the same dedication as before of course,we can do wonders. As for the music side, we had the best that South Africa had to offer with regard to Roque and also had the best from local house music Djs who are doing quite well breaking into the music industry. As such,it was a wonderful musical experience.

Me: Why Roque though out of all the Djs?

Matome: Roque is one of the most talented house music producer and Djs in South Africa. He has been in the music industry for quite sometime now and he has not yet been exposed to the people of Limpopo that much though his music is quite popular to househeads in this region. I am not undermining our home talent, given that Roque is from Mpumalanga but it is always good for our local Djs and producers to be exposed to a different talent from other parts of South Africa, who can atleast give them a glimpse of what music is like on the other side and also to bring them closer so as to create a network through which music can be shared.

In the midst of everything, I obviously had to get a word or two from the main guy of the event as well and this was what he had to say:

Me: How was Mania Chisanyama?

Roque: Mania was great! People came in numbers to support the event and my music, although we had a mini problem driving from Witbank, because we had 2 tyre bursts on the vehicle we were travelling in.

Me: Because house has different divisions- tribal, deep, commercial what is your speciality?

Roque: I can produce anything I want, I just love soulful and deepsoul.

Thank you so much magents for your time and the opportunity you've given us to hear from you. A pilot episode of Behind the Beat will be dropping on the 30th of June 2017 on Facebook and Youtube please do check it out.
