I WAS NOT A SPY - MKHWEBANE
According to City Press, the preferred candidate for the position of public protector, Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane, has trashed claims by Democratic Alliance that she was a spy while working as an immigration officer for home affairs in China.
This was after the DA dropped a political atom bomb by claiming she was a spy close to president Jacob Zuma. DA MP, Werner Horn claimed the DA had reliable information from various sources that Mkhwebane had been employed by the State Security Agent (SSA).
However, Mkhwebane denied this in a reply to a question sent by SMS on Tuesday afternoon.
“I never worked for SSA. I only joined the SSA on July 4 2016,” Mkhwebane said.
The African National Congress (ANC), In a statement on Twitter also described the opposition to Mkhwebane nomination post as “baseless” and “politically” motivated.
Mkhwebane added that she was not obliged to respond to the DA’s claim as well as the information about her career history had already been made available to parliament.
At least 60% of MPs need to vote in support of her nomination for the recommendation to be passed.
