STATE BEGINS PROCESS TO APPEAL PISTORIUS SENTENCE

According to Eye Witness News, the state is making its application to appeal the six-year prison sentence handed down to former Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius, which is believed to be too lenient.

Oscar Pistorius shot and killed Reeva Steenkamp his girlfriend on Valentine’s day 2013. In 2014 Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide and was sentenced to five (5) years in prison. The Supreme Court of Appeal ruled he should be convicted of murder and re-sentence.

Last month, Judge Thokozile Masipa sentenced Pistorius to six years in jail.

However, Pistorius’s defence team says the state’s application is without merit and inappropriate.
