TUT STUDENT LEADER'S LIFE LOST DURING A PEACEFUL PROTEST
Thursday afternoon, a number of student on a march were hit by a car and later on Lesego Benjamin Phahle was confirmed dead at Dr George Mukhari Hospital. Students were protesting against the expensive tuition fees “# FeesMustFall” from one Tswane University of Technology campus to another at Shoshanguve – Aubrey Matlala Street.
There was an alleged argument between the students and a car driver. The driver then went back into his car and started driving towards the students to purposely hit them repeatedly. Few of them sustained injuries and others headed to where he resides (they touched down the house) being led by the other two guys whom he dropped off after the incident running away from his consequences.
“We will not rest up until we find the guy who did this to our mates, that is an act of cruelness” exclaimed one of the students. He later added that it was a peaceful protest in the presence of police officers until this guy messed it up.
Social network; your Twitter, Facebook etc are swamped with condolences and the speedy recovery wishes from fellow students. “RIP to our soldier Benjamin Phehla that passed on at the picket lines. We will remember your contribution to the student movement. Amandla” Sasco Gauteng.
